GH1131 (K1131) is a solution-strengthened iron-nickel-chromium based superalloy designed for exceptional high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance up to approximately 1100°C (2012°F). It features superior resistance to thermal fatigue, good formability, and excellent weldability, making it well-suited for demanding aerospace applications.
GH1131 alloy possesses good hot and cold workability, although it exhibits significant work hardening during cold forming. Consequently, complex shaping operations often require multiple intermediate annealing stages to maintain ductility and prevent cracking. The alloy is readily weldable using common techniques such as TIG, MIG, and resistance welding, typically employing matching composition filler wires (e.g., GH1131 wire per GB/T 15620).
To achieve optimal mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, GH1131 is supplied in the solution annealed condition, typically heat treated within the range of 1230-1260°C (2246-2300°F) followed by rapid cooling (air or water quench).
GH1131 finds extensive use in critical high-temperature components for military and commercial jet engines and gas turbines, particularly combustion chambers (flame tubes/liners), afterburner components, transition ducts, and structural parts requiring high strength-to-weight ratio and thermal stability in oxidizing environments. It is often selected as a cost-effective alternative to alloys like Inconel 625 (GH3625) in many applications.
